Shirt Styles

Every bespoke shirt is unique, however the occasion on which it is to be worn will, broadly speaking, determine its style and specifications. Below are examples of common shirt styles.

Day shirt

To be worn on a day-to-day basis whilst working. A day shirt may have button cuffs for convenience. Its collar type will be determined by the style of tie it is to be worn with.

Evening shirt

To be worn on evening events. Evening shirts may have a ruffled or Marcella front, a wing-tipped collar to accommodate a bow tie and French double cuffs. They will most likely be white in colour and made of silk.

Weekend shirt

Originally intended to be worn whilst hunting, these will be made of linen or wool due to these material’s ability to absorb sweat and retain heat. They will have a fuller cut and be made of a bolder fabric.

Beach shirt

To be worn on informal occasions and in hot climates with maximum comfort in mind. A beach shirt will have a looser fit, fewer front buttons and potentially a lido style collar. It will be made of a thin, breathable fabric and potentially floral patterned.
